Okay, I know, the President gave another charming and articulate speech... sounded alot like the campaign trail all over again. He said a lot of the right things but he also had some things in there that had me pretty concerned... The idea that the Federal Government is going to do it better... that his new government programs will "force" business to do it his way... is simply not an American Idea; and compulsion is not an American Ideal.
I loved Arizona Senator Jon Kyl's chart where he showed that Obama's commitment to cutting the deficit occurs automatically if he does nothing... because the deficit he is committing to cut in half isn't the Bush deficit, it is the new deficit just voted on unanomously by the democrats (plus three republican defectors from principle). Can you spell disengenous? Obama obviously didn't want to be too clear on how he was going to do this...
Truth is, Bobby Jindal, governor of Lousiana was terrific with the right message.
I can always count on you to be reactionary rather than rational, Bruce. It's why I keep coming back.
ReplyDeleteJindal's speech was an infomercial.
And the deficit Obama proposes to cut in half is the deficit total at the end of the 2008 fiscal year. I'm not saying he's going to be able to pull it off, or claiming he isn't just politicking, only saying you need to check your sources more carefully.
Also, could the federal government really do it any WORSE than private banks have? I can't really imagine that to be so.
I respect what you (and every other Republican) is trying to do here, but until you understand that the pretense of fiscal responsibility coming from Republicans is not meeting much credibility with Americans, you'll continue to sound as desperate for a message and as poorly informed about issues as you do in this post.
I'm not saying it's justified, or that the Republican Party doesn't still have an opportunity to play a key role, I'm just saying accepting the reality of the perceptions that exist now will make you sound a lot less... full of it.
